About Me

CMs. Aleka Arredondo graduated from California State University San Bernardino CSUSB with a Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition & Food Science, during this time she maintained a GPA of 3.8. After graduating she decided to expand her education by a pursuing a Master’s Degree in Public Health from the same college. Her short-term goal is to work the San Bernardino Department of Public Health. Her long-term goal is to continue to work in efforts to expand awareness and education about nutritious lifestyles. Working with public health programs Aleka hopes to be an agent of change to reduce disparities within her community.
            She obtained experience as a Quality Technician at Halliburton International food Co. while in graduate school. This experience allowed her to perform quality inspections and critically analyze critical hazard points in a factory setting. Aleka continued to work in the nutrition field as a Household Coach at a behavioral health facility. Her main tasks included teaching clients how to adopt and maintain healthy life style for their specific needs. Aleka is currently enrolled in the CSUSB Individual Structured Pathway Program pursuing her Registered Dietitian Nutritionist certificate.

      While working as data intern I gained experience effectively entering and organizing handwritten qualitative data into a spreadsheet software for further statistical analysis. ​
Nutritional Counselor
Lions Diabetes Foundation
        During my time at the Lions Camp I was part of the program board. I was able to develop nutritional education classes for different youth groups. As well as provide a nutritionally adequate pre-diabetic menu and monitor Food Saftey kitchen procedures.

Gender-based Body Image Perceptions Among College Students

Abstract
This study sought to examine gender-based expectations of an ideal body, for self and opposite gender, among college students. Open ended qualitative data collected from general education courses at California State University San Bernardino was retrospectively analyzed using open and axial coding methods. In total 145 student participants were included, 94 were self-identified women and 51 were self-identified men. The results reveal significant differences in the ideal body image expectations for self and opposite genders.​
